Tipu Sultan, also known as the Tiger of Mysore, was the ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore from 1782 until he died in 1799. He was the son of Hyder Ali, a general in the service of the sultan of Mysore. Tipu Sultan's reign was marked by several military successes, as well as several controversies.
